Former Independent Police Investigative Directorate Head Robert McBride is taking the decision not to renew his contract on review. Parliament’s police portfolio committee recommended he not be given another term.
JOHANNESBURG – Former Independent Police Investigative Directorate boss Robert McBride said he’s being labelled as difficult because of his unbending fight against corruption.
McBride is taking the decision not to renew his contract on review.
“Clearly this difficult person is already being missed by people at Ipid,” McBride said.
“You cannot pat and powder corruption, you have to be straight up. Don’t steal, don’t encourage theft. If that makes me arrogant and difficult, fine. I will wear the badge with honour.”READ: Phahlane blames arrest on McBride
He stated his grounds for taking the decision for review is that the decision was not rational.
“This is like Rendition 2: Rendition Reloaded, filled with lies and ad hoc allegations, untested and the initial complaints are then responded to and then makeup complaints as they go along,” the former Ipid head stated.
Acting IPID head Victor Senna has assured parliament that he’s fit for the job and investigations will proceed as usual.
He was addressing members of the Police Portfolio Committee in parliament earlier on Wednesday.READ: Ipid head of investigations dismissed
Senna replaced Robert McBride and will be acting for three months before going back to his old position.
Senna said, “the responsibilities of the executive director are listed under section 7 of the IPID act.”
“You have a national head who is investigator and investigations are done in provinces. We are going to do investigations as normal.”
