Accountability Now has given careful consideration to the Unite Against Corruption campaign which plans to march on Parliament and the Union Buildings on 30 September, 2015. We have decided to join the campaign and have communicated our intention to do so to the organisers. We will march in Cape Town in support of our long-standing demand for an Integrity Commission under Chapter Nine of the Constitution to be created to supplement the anti-corruption work of the Hawks, the SIU and other institutions of state that work to prevent and combat corruption. We believe that an Integrity Commission clothed with the status of a Chapter Nine Institution will be best placed to deal with the scourge of corruption. An Integrity Commission that specialises in anti-corruption work, with properly trained personnel who enjoy security of tenure of office and who are properly resourced with guaranteed and adequate resources and funding are best placed to act independently and without interference in preventing and combating corruption. We urge all right thinking South Africans and our supporters and associates to join in the march or send a message of support if they are unable to do so.
