Action demanded over SAPS’ 2010 rental deal

Accountability Now Director Paul Hoffman says he is yet to hear from the country’s law enforcement agencies and the Public Protector’s office with regard to the finalisation of the investigation in the R500 million property deal relating Police Minister Bheki Cele who was then national commissioner. Hoffman wrote to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to follow up on a case that dates back to 2010 in relation to two police lease deals signed with businessman Roux Shabangu to move top SAPS leadership to a new headquarters. In 2012, former President Jacob Zuma released Cele from his duties following a recommendation by the board of inquiry which looked into whether Cele had acted corruptly, dishonestly, or with an undeclared conflict of interest.
