Ghalib Galant, the Chief Catalyst and founder member of SynergyWORKS, holds BA and LLB degrees from the University of Cape Town. His work at the intersection of human rights and conflict transformation has seen him intervene at both grassroots and institutional levels in a wide range of contexts from Masiphumelele in the Western Cape to Dili in East Timor. He has worked extensively with national human rights institutions on the continent and internationally on strengthening their institutional capacity to deliver on their mandate.

He is also a former full-time Labour Commissioner with the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration in South Africa

He was Director of the Social Law Programme at the University of the Western Cape. He worked as a Programme Director at the Centre for Conflict Resolution in Cape Town looking at the resolution of a wide range of social, political and economic conflicts.

His current work involves seeing how best to recognise and realise new ways of working and of being in times of great social upheaval and systemic collapse. How can we uncover the potential that lies within the cracks– in each situation and person?

He also holds a 4th degree black belt in the Japanese martial art, Aikido. This has been the fruit of nearly 30 years and springs from the importance he places on having a practice that grounds one in one’s daily life.
